Yasemin Cengiz Çağatay’s digital images are technically based on the principles of traditional painting. Abstract forms, not self-generated like fractals but entirely constructed by the artist, constantly evolve and contain the chaotic dynamism of both the human being and the cosmos. Familiar forms and abstract experimentations are interwoven to create dream-like compositions and create an artificial reality. Çağatay creates an ecosystem inhabited by hybrid creatures, where the joyful and the threatening sides of the fairy tales coexist. The artist’s deep interest in surrealism and abstract expressionism opens the door for artistic experimentations with unlimited possibilities and is in close relationship with Gothic storytelling.
